Description

Comrex Opal IP Audio Gateway

Guest interviews don’t have to be complicated.Expert guests (like entertainers, political pundits, athletes, and others) don’t always have access to engineers. They need something as simple to use and familiar as a phone call. But that doesn’t mean a radio program should settle for phone quality audio. Opal is an IP audio gateway that enables guests to connect to the studio  by simply clicking a link. It provides HD quality audio from consumer grade equipment, like a cellphone or a computer with a microphone. It’s easy enough to use without a technical background, and most importantly, it sounds great.

Simplicity
Opal enables guests to connect  to the studio by simply clicking a link. Unlike Skype and other apps,  the remote guest doesn’t install a thing – they just click a button, and go live. This simplicity means that guests with no technical background can connect and transmit HD audio.

Compatibility
Opal works by activating the Opus  encoder built into commonly used browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera.  As a result, Opal can connect to any computer or Android or iOS device with one of those browsers installed. All a remote guest needs to transmit audio is a browser and a microphone.

Opus Encoder
Opus is a ubiquitous encoder that  is built into modern web browsers. Opus transmits high-fidelity, low delay audio in both directions. It uses very little network bandwidth, so it’s highly reliable.

Comrex

Comrex logo - Pro FM BroadcastComrex has designed and manufactured broadcast equipment since its incorporation in 1961. Our product line has consistently applied the best in current technology to the specific needs of broadcasters. Comrex designs and builds equipment that uses the most advanced available technology to connect broadcasters with their audiences. We strive to build reliable, user-friendly tools that engineers can trust to work, even during complicated broadcasts. From the time of our founder John Cheney's first products in the early 1960s, Comrex has had a long tradition of providing a very down-to-earth answer to a universal broadcast need - bringing high quality audio into the studio from virtually anywhere, economically, at a moment's notice. Comrex has been in the vanguard of technical development, making use of new and innovative technologies for radio and television well before they hit the mainstream. Our ACCESS and BRIC-Link IP audio codecs make use of sophisticated audio transmission technology to ensure reliable broadcasts over challenging IP networks. We then used our years of experience in IP to develop our CrossLock tools to handle the unique demands of transmitting video, with the development of our LiveShot IP video technology. Throughout it all, we have continued to refine our telephone hybrid technology with products like VH2, and break new ground with products like Opal.
